The gauge will do the same thing, from 3/4 tank down to 1/4 tank left. If it doesn't, you most likely have a blown fuse that needs to be replaced. When it becomes worn or the float may even have a leak in it, the unit sends incorrect info to your guage.
Best practice to have the fuel gauge read correctly after filling up is to turn off the key while filling.
The fuel gauge has never read accurately. It drops quickly from full to empty, pegs on the left, after some m. You need to visually inspect the wiring as any break or damage to the sending unit wire, or ground will cause a problem at the gauge.

The fuel guage is sometimes 1/4 full, sometimes 1/2 full, and when i fill it up, the guage goes way past full. I have had an intermittent problem with my fuel gauge which began shortly after i bought my car , and was wondering if anyone else had had this issue.
In most cases, to gain access to the fuel tank sending unit mount / fuel pump mounting hole, you’ll need to drop the gas tank down.
Even the low fuel warning sign will come on at different intervals, sometimes at 30 miles left, 70, 40. If you disconnect the connector to the fuel pump assembly (by the gas tank), turn the key on, the gauge should swing to full. The sender doesn't register the increase in fuel right away.
My fuel gauge is working properly, then out of nowhere it completely stops working, triggers the low fuel light, and occasionally the check engine light :x.

Interruption in the ground for either the gauge or the fuel sender might cause the issue too. The fuse box will either be located under the driver's side dash or in the engine compartment, so consult your owners manual to pinpoint the location so you can. Reconnect the gauge wiring to the unit and ground the unit.
